Untwinned - Perspectives on Twin Loss

Untwinned - Perspectives on Twin Loss

An anthology of twenty chapters about the death of a twin before birth from a variety of perspectives.

A comprehensive treatment of the subject, including current, ground-breaking research into the death of a twin, both at birth and before, plus stories and poetry written by the survivors themselves.

Of interest to parents, psychologists, therapists, and anyone who knew the death of their twin before birth. Some of these chapters will be of interest to pregnant women who have experienced vanishing twin phenomenon. Psychologists studying the possible pre-birth origins of various psychological conditions will find the case studies in this book very enlightening.

It seems that we all carry some vague impressions of our life in the womb, but surviving twins have an important story to tell. The editor is director of, an internet- based research project into the psychological effect on the surviving twin of experiencing the death of ones co-twin before or at birth.

She provides information, help and psychological support for the sole survivors of twin or multiple pregnancies known as wombtwin survivors. This book is a collection of material gathered during her research and includes two case studies illustrating her work.

To suggest that one may carry in mind throughout life some impression of a stillborn co-twin may seem reasonable, but if a co-twin was lost many months before birth, this may seem at first glance to be misguided or even absurd. Nevertheless, she has made such a claim, and this book explains why.
