National Storytelling Week Jan 27th - Feb 3rd

Reading to your twins will improve their language. vocabulary. attention and future reading success and the good thing is it's never too early to start ! Why not get involved during National Storytelling Week which is held to increase public awareness on the art. practice and value of storytelling. The Society for Storytelling was set up to promote the oldest art form in the world. It is the traditional medium of communication from generation to generation.

Events they hold each year include..... books


an annual Gathering with a full programme of events held each spring. in a different part of the country each year. In 2007 it will be held in Pocklington School near York.

For National Storytelling Week 2007 - our 7th year - they aim to involve as diverse an array of ethnic traditions in the British Isles with events in Museums. Libraries. Schools. Theatres. Book Shops. Storytelling Clubs. Retirement Homes and Pubs.
The SfS is an open organisation which welcomes anyone with an interest in oral storytelling. whether teller. listener. beginner or professional. There are subgroups to cater for specialist interests such as storytelling in Education or Therapy.

This week was chosen because it coincides with the old church calendar festival of Candlemas. which falls on the 2nd of February. Part of the old rituals for this festival includes a blessing on the throat. a prime tool in the store of nearly every storyteller'.
